Ocular Surface Disease
What is Ocular Surface Disease (OSD)?
Ocular Surface Disease refers to a group of conditions that affect the cornea, conjunctiva, and tear film, leading to discomfort, redness, irritation, and vision problems. Common types include:
- Dry Eye Syndrome – Insufficient tear production or poor tear quality.
- Allergic Conjunctivitis – Inflammation due to allergens.
- Pterygium – A growth on the conjunctiva that can affect vision.
- Keratitis – Corneal inflammation caused by infections or trauma.
Ocular Surface Disease Treatment
- Artificial Tears & Lubricating Eye Drops – For dry eye relief.
- Anti-inflammatory Medications – Steroid or cyclosporine drops for inflammation.
- Punctal Plugs – Tiny devices inserted into tear ducts to retain moisture.
- Surgical Treatment – Includes pterygium removal or amniotic membrane transplantation for severe cases.
