What is Pediatric Eye Care?
Pediatric eye care focuses on diagnosing and treating vision problems in children, such as lazy eye (amblyopia), refractive errors, and congenital eye conditions. Early detection is crucial for proper visual development.
Common Pediatric Eye Treatments
- Glasses or Contact Lenses – For refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism).
- Patching Therapy – Used for amblyopia (lazy eye) to strengthen the weaker eye.
- Surgical Correction – For congenital cataracts, strabismus, or blocked tear ducts.
What is Squint (Strabismus)?
Squint (strabismus) is a condition where the eyes do not align properly, leading to double vision or lazy eye if untreated. It can be caused by muscle imbalance, nerve issues, or refractive errors.
Squint Treatment
- Glasses or Vision Therapy – Used for mild cases.
- Eye Exercises (Orthoptics) – Helps strengthen eye muscles.
- Botox Injections – Temporarily relaxes overactive eye muscles.
- Strabismus Surgery – Adjusts eye muscles to realign the eyes properly.
Early treatment is essential to prevent vision impairment and improve eye coordination.
