Retina & Uvitis
What is the Retina?
The retina is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye that sends visual signals to the brain. Retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment, can lead to vision loss if not treated.
Retinal Surgery
- Vitrectomy – Removes the vitreous gel to repair retinal damage.
- Laser Photocoagulation – Seals leaking blood vessels in diabetic retinopathy.
- Retinal Detachment Surgery – Includes scleral buckling, pneumatic retinopexy, or vitrectomy to reattach the retina.
What is Uveitis?
Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye. It can be caused by infections, autoimmune diseases, or trauma and leads to symptoms like eye pain, redness, blurred vision, and light sensitivity.
Uveitis Treatment
- Corticosteroids (Drops, Injections, or Oral) – Reduce inflammation.
- Immunosuppressive Medications – Used for severe or chronic cases.
- Surgery (Vitrectomy) – In rare cases, surgery may be needed if other treatments fail.
Early treatment is essential to prevent complications like glaucoma or vision loss.
