Glaucoma

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause optic nerve damage, often due to high intraocular pressure (IOP). It can lead to gradual vision loss and, if untreated, blindness. Since glaucoma usually has no early symptoms, regular eye check-ups are crucial for early detection.

Glaucoma Surgery

Glaucoma treatment aims to lower eye pressure and prevent further damage. Surgical options include:

  • Trabeculectomy – Creates a drainage channel to reduce eye pressure.
  • Laser Surgery (SLT, ALT) – Uses laser energy to improve fluid drainage.
  • Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) – Less invasive techniques for mild to moderate cases.
  • Glaucoma Drainage Implants – Tiny tubes implanted to drain excess fluid.

Early detection and treatment can help preserve vision.
